interplex was designed by an interpreter primarily for use by interpreters in the booth, but it could also be useful to translators, too. The program makes it extremely easy to search for words and expressions, even while you are working. Glossaries stored in a format such as Word or Excel always require that you enter the search function and then the expression, which takes far too much time if the first hit is not correct. In this program, the search function stays on until you switch it off. The program also will ignore accents, so that looking for words in French, Spanish or German becomes even easier.
Sometimes, particularly when you have a large number of glossaries, it is useful to be able to search for a word across all glossaries. The program includes a function which does this. Hit multi-glossary search, and the program will run through all your glossaries and tell you which of them contains the word or words you are looking for. Double-click on one of the hits, and that glossary will open.
Changing the order of languages has been made extremely simple. Just pick up the column you wish to alphabetise, drag it across to the left-hand position and drop. This can be done repeatedly, and the program will remember the order the next time you open the glossary. You can also decide to add a new language to a glossary you have already created or to delete a language you no longer need. The program will also let you import from and export to other formats, such as Word, Excel and Text, particularly useful if you have already produced glossaries in those formats or wish to share your glossaries with colleagues who do not have the program.
Other features include a merge and a print function (which allows you to choose the order of printing and to omit any languages you do not need to have). A help file is included instead of a manual to walk you through the various possibilities. However, most of you will probably never need this as the program is very intuitive and many functions can be activated in a variety of different ways.
